Q & A

How did you learn of Costumers with a Cause?

I have friends who have been in CWC for years, so I’ve always seen the good work that they’ve done and how many wonderful people are in the group.

What is/was your favorite experience when in costume and why?

There are so many to choose from! One of my favorites is from my first charity event where a child came up to me and started holding my hand and I didn’t see her parents immediately, so she was just standing at my side holding my hand for about ten minutes before her parents walked up and were amazed because “she never feels comfortable holding anyone’s hand!”

Do you have a favorite superhero? If yes, who and why?

Black Canary is my favorite because she is so many things-she is a legacy superhero who is carrying on her mother’s legacy, she is maternal towards her friends, she is feminine but also kicks butt, she’s been through trauma and come out stronger on the other end, and also, I would love to be able to scream at my problems until they go away.

If you could cure any disease or disability, which would you cure?

Cancer. No question.

What hobbies do you have outside of CWC?

I’m a writer and a podcaster and a painter.

The world is your oyster. You can go anywhere and do anything for as long as you’d like. Where would you go and what would you do?

I would probably go to Ireland and Scotland and tour all the castles and stay in them.

Are there any causes or foundations that come close to your heart? If yes, which ones? Why?

The Alzheimer’s Association is really personal to me because I lost my grandpa to Alzheimer’s and it’s such a brutal, unforgiving disease.

Who are your real-life heroes?

Gail Simone and Shannon Farnon and Neil Gaiman are some of my heroes. People who create stories and embody characters that inspire us are so important to our society and to our mental health in my opinion.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney movie as a kid and I was fortunate enough to be able to see Jodi Benson in a Broadway show and I don’t remember how I knew, but I begged my parents to wait by the side door for the cast to come out so we could meet Jodi and of course, I was too starstruck to say anything, but she was absolutely lovely and kind to me and she and my mom had a wonderful conversation. Always meet your heroes in my opinion – if they end up not living up to what you expected, then at least then you know that it’s time to find new heroes.

Tell us one thing you think would surprise us.

I’m an organization nerd – spreadsheets are totally my jam.
