Please enjoy this short introduction to Laura, one of the leaders of our CWC Northeast Florida chapter!

How did you learn of Costumers with a Cause?

I went to the Wizarding Market event in Jacksonville Florida in 2024 and immediately asked volunteers from CWC how to become a volunteer.

What is/was your favorite experience when in costume and why?

I love so many things about being in costume. In general it is fun to pull out the parts of me that are in common with the character and I love to interact with people when in costume. Specifically with CWC I love being a character that a child loves to meet, seeing them light up is the best.

Do you have a favorite superhero? Who, and why?

I do not know how anyone picks one superhero. But one of my favorites is Captain Marvel because she is so powerful and despite going through hardships she finds ways to be true to herself.

If you could cure any disease or disability, which would you cure?

I think I would cure all dementia diseases. I value my mind and memories, and I value those things in others.

What hobbies do you have outside of CWC?

I love to read, watch movies and tv, and travel. Sometimes it is nice to join my family or my friends in their hobbies.

The world is your oyster. You can go anywhere and do anything for as long as you’d like. Where would you go and what would you do?

I would travel all over. I would go to lots of museums about history and art. I would have my family or friends travel with me to specific places they have dreamed of visiting. Some of my first places would be Ireland, Italy, Australia and Japan.

Are there any causes or foundations that come close to your heart? If yes, which ones? Why?

The Trevor Project because it saves lives and gives people a place to turn to when they think there is not anywhere to turn. NAMI is also important to me since they raise awareness for mental health and also provides a safe place for people.

Who are your real-life heroes?

Mostly my family and friends are my heroes. Another hero of mine is Eleanor Roosevelt.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

I remember playing games in my front yard with my neighborhood friends and even making costumes for our games.

Tell us one thing you think would surprise us.

I have my masters degree from the University of Georgia.
