Southwest Florida (Fort Myers and Naples area) is our newest branch of Costumers With A Cause. A post in a Facebook cosplay group generated a lot of interest in a part of Florida where CwC did not have representation. Luckily, Amanda stepped up to help get this branch going and has been doing a great job recruiting members and finding events for us to spread the word about our mission. We are very happy to Amanda on board!
How did you learn of Costumers with a Cause?
I have a con friend that is active in it and when I saw it come up in the Florida Cosplayers group, I had to see what it’s got in store for SWFL.
What is/was your favorite experience when in costume and why?
One of my favorite moments was when I was Rapunzel entertaining at a country club painting with kids and there was a girl who was getting visibly frustrated and upset that she messed up her painting. I got down to her level and told her that sometimes it can be hard when you’re feeling big feelings and sometimes you need help to get through them. I coached her through some breathing exercises then when she felt better we decided how to fix her painting and she was very happy in the end! I know that this moment will stick with her next time she’s felling big feelings.
Do you have a favorite superhero? If yes, who and why?
I look up to Wonder Woman because she’s strong, smart, independent, and doesn’t let anyone get in her way.
If you could cure any disease or disability, which would you cure?
Alzheimers and Dementia are such heartbreaking diseases watch unfold because it only gets worse with time and you see the person lose themselves and you feel the pain they experience when they realize that they don’t remember a loved one’s name or a memory they cherished so deeply.
What hobbies do you have outside of CwC?
Costuming and cosplay are a big part of my life but I also love to kayak, watch anime.
The world is your oyster. You can go anywhere and do anything for as long as you’d like. Where would you go and what would you do?
I would love to travel the world and experience every culture’s unique food. Not exactly a pinpoint location but the idea’s there.
Are there any causes or foundations that come close to your heart? If yes, which ones? Why?
Autism Awareness has been an important cause in my life since it runs throughout my family including my sister. Animal shelters are also a cause that’s close to my heart.
Who are your real-life heroes?
My mom is the person I admire the most, I aspire to be my own version of her.
What is your favorite childhood memory?
We had a family tradition of going to see the Christmas Lights at some famous holiday houses in New York, and when we moved down to Florida we drove through a neighborhood which had tons of houses all decorated with lights.
Tell us one thing you think would surprise us.
I walk my cats! They enjoy the mental stimulation of exploring their surroundings and helps them be familiar with the area if they ever get out and need to know their way home. No 3am zoomies either…
Thank you so very much for joining and helping expand CwC!
