Meet Jen Greeley. I think everyone who has ever met Jen will tell you she is an amazing person! She is so kind, has a beautiful smile that can light up the room as soon as she walks in, just a really friendly, happy person who loves to help others in any way that she can. Don’t let her sweet looks fool you though, she’s not a push over, she is definitely a strong female which is one of the many reasons she was chosen to be one of the Admins for Midwest CwC and a Director on the Board!

How did you learn about CwC?

At conventions I had been talking to other cosplayers and heard about a great organization that volunteers with children and special causes. After looking into it, it seemed a perfect fit for my volunteering desires and costuming hobby.

What was your favorite experience with CwC and why?

Last year I participated in a Kids In Capes event at The Chicago Ronald McDonald House for CwC and was overwhelmed by the children’s response to our presence. The children hit home and my heart was so happy to be able to share my Super Girl with quite a few little girls that were just as strong as she is in their determination to succeed and fight their diseases! True little troopers!!!

Do you have a favorite superhero? If so, who and why?

My favorite superhero is Black Widow because she is completely capable of holding her own and is an integral part of the team but in an understated way. Quiet strength.  I love Wonder Woman too, but Black Widow holds a special place in my heart. I started off cosplaying only her for years until branching off to differing cosplays.

If you could cure any disease or disability which would you cure?

This is such a hard question because I want to cure every disease! I think MS would be the one that I would try to cure, because so many people have it and significantly affects the lives of multiple family members in addition to the diagnosed. A close second is Alzheimer’s or dementia, a horrid struggle that has and is affecting my family. To lose someone without physically losing them is crushing.

What hobbies do you have outside CwC?

Some of my favorites are writing, photography and gardening. My absolute favorite is researching The Columbian World Exposition of 1893. I’ve been writing a book for quite a few years on the subject. Eventually I will take a break from cosplay to finish editing it and inserting my photos!!!

The world is tour oyster, you can go anywhere and do anything for as long as you’d like, where would you go and what would you do?

What a great question! I’ve been quite a few places during my time in the military, and just traveling on my own. I’ve never been to China or Easter Island, I’d really love to go to those places to experience the environment!

Are there any causes or foundations that come close to your heart? Of yes, which ones? Why?

I really have a lot of respect for the Salvation Army, they have the largest drug and alcohol rehabilitation system in the country. It is free of charge, incorporates assistance for men and women as available. Their administrative costs are kept so low that most of the profit from their thrift stores goes directly back into programming to help more people rehabilitate from drug and alcohol dependency. I really love that mission.

Who are your real life heroes?

My real life heroes are firemen, I could never imagine running into a burning building or dragging somebody out a fire to save them. I’m not sure what that says about me, but they are some of the bravest people I know.

What is your favorite childhood memory?

My favorite childhood memories always center around being best friends with my buddy Elyse, she’s pretty amazing and I always feel incredible joy being around her still!!!

Tell us one thing you think would surprise us…

I have Fibromyalgia, so the fun of putting on costumes, hanging out with friends and walking around taking pictures helps me forget things hurt. (Did you happen to notice this was NOT the disease Jen said she would cure if she could?! This, THIS, is what sets people like Jen apart from so many others. So selfless! <3 you, Jen!)

Jen, Thank you so very much for all you do with CwC! You are such a positive light in a world that is much needed in today’s world! It is because of you that CwC is the wonderful organization that it is. “Thank you” sometimes just doesn’t seem strong enough, but, THANK YOU!
